German Shepherd Rescued From The Los Angeles River

In case you missed this story like I did, here it is. Last month 50 firefighters responded to a German Shepherd trapped in the Los Angeles River. Lowered in by a helicopter U.S. Firefighter Joe St. Georges risks his own life to save this poor K-9 from the river.

Officials sate that the male dog nicknamed "Vernon" is doing fine.

After the rescue...

1 minute 29 seconds
Vernon is a little shaken up but I'm sure he is relieved to be rid of that situation. Found with no tags and no microchip the owner is unknown?
I for one do not agree with implanting dogs with microchips. It seems a bit inhumane and unnecessary doesn't it? What do you think?
